Don’t miss the biggest Fan Fest in USA Rugby history! The official Fan fest will take place on the Stadium Green at Soldier Field from 11:00-2:30 PM on match day.
USA Rugby has released game day details to make planning your Halloween weekend a bit easier. It’s only TWO WEEKS AWAY!
Friday the Chicago Griffins will be playing Arkansas State at noon, TheCARFU Masquerade Ball ends after midnight, but you will want to make sure you rest up for the big day! You can start game day out with and early with the Fall season Tornados will be playing the Select side from Missouri at 9:30 at Altgeld Park. If you are looking into colleges for yourself, child, or a family member, check out the USA College Rugby Fair at the Hilton. Space is limited, and there will be school from all over the nation, including U of I, Ohio State, Palmer, Loyola and many more. It starts at 10:00am, and you will learn what colleges are looking from from their athletes as well as the academics they offer.
There are several clubs doing buses and tail gating. With bars opening up at 10am, you can head out to pre-game at several establishments. TheChicago Griffins will be hosting a bus, that will start out at the Black Rock, 3614 N. Damen. For $40 you will get brunch with a drink special, a tailgate area, and transportation to and from the match. There are a limited amount of tickets available so buy them now. If you are coming from closer on the south side, Reggie’s Rock Club will be having a pre-party too. The Beach Rugby America‘s Launch Party and Rugby Social Olympics will host the Tailgate and Post Match Party! Rugby Social Olympics! 11am- 2pm will include Wing Eating Contest, Arm Wrestling, Rugby Jeopardy, Team Boat Races, Team Flippy Cup , Rock Band Karaoke in Rock Club. There will also be a buffet for $15, and rides to and from the game. There will also be the Official USA Rugby Fan Fest,which will take place on the Stadium Green at Soldier Field from 11:00-2:30 PM on match day. So where ever you start the day off, make sure you get there in time for some cool giveaways. You can also get your picture with Rookie the Eagle. Lincoln Park RFC will be having a bus and booze package as well. Package includes breakfast buffet and beer at Fizz Bar (3220 Lincoln) prior to the game and transport to and from Soldier field. Cost is $60
Tail Gating starts at 11am, the Chicago Riot will be having a large group event, which is already sold out. You can still drop by and say hi to the team. The Chicago Lions will also be having a tail gate party with 5 spaces next to each other. If you haven’t gotten a parking space yet, do so ASAP! Gates will open at 12:30 PM. Stop by the Miller Lite Beer Garden outside Gate 3 and catch live entertainment beginning at 11:00 AM. Kelly’s Pub, located inside the South Gates, will also be open beginning at 12:30 PM. Tail gating is allowed until Kick Off at 2:30. The match will be televised live in the U.S. on NBC. Tune in to Universal Sports Network at 2:00 PM CT to catch the pregame show with live telecast of the game commencing at 2:30 P.M. CT on NBC. Tickets are still available for the game, but if you can’t afford it, you can watch the game at John Barleycorn or Moe’s Cantina.
If you’re not exhausted Sunday, you can check out the Haka exhibit at the Field museum, and get $5 off with you game stub, or go to the suburbs for the Old Boys Cavelcade of Wonders, Six sides. Two fields. Two millennia of combined rugby experience. Work off all the glug and grub of the week of All-Blacks / USA Eagles events with some rugby. Teams from Chicago as well as DC, Arazona, and Memphis will get together for a few games of fun and sharing in the special bond that is rugby!
GAME LEAD UP AND POST
There will also be plenty of events leading up the the big game day and after the game!
The Saturday before, Chicago area youth will be heading out to Jackson Park, near the Museum of Science and Industry, for a Rookie Rugby Festival. Several CPS, Park District and clubs from schools around the area will be coming out to play some rugby and show off their quickly developing skills. Beginning at 10 a.m. at Jackson Park, the event is sponsored by USA Rugby, AIG and Illinois Youth Rugby.There will be three divisions, one in each age group from local elementary, middle and high schools.
Monday Oct. 27. 4-6p at Union Station, Adidas is holding a sponsorship activation. Some All Blacks are expected to be present performing skill drills at three stations: Kicking for points, Passing agility and reaction, and Lineouts. So make time in your commute to check that out.
In celebration of the All Blacks match the premiere the 3rd documentary of the award winning series, Red, White, Black & Blue 3 is screening on Thursday afternoon, Oct 30th and Sunday evening, Nov 2nd at the Gene Siskel Theater downtown Chicago. Red, White Black & Blue follows a group of South LA teens touring the world in search of hard rugby and a better understanding of the world around them and themselves. It’s free but you must RSVP for either Thursday or Sunday.
Thursday, as the teams land and get settled into the city, you can come out to Red Ivy in Wrigleyville. Join USA Rugby for a celebration of rugby and fun for fans. Enjoy live music, great food, drink specials and a promising of a “host of other surprises”. the event will start at 5pm and go until, well Red Ivy closes at 2:00am!
Friday, afternoon there will be the Chicago Lost Afternoon Rugby Luncheon, at the Hyatt downtown from 11-4pm. There will be USA and All Black players there to meet and greet, former Canadian National Team captain Al Charron and Hong Kong National Team captain Stu Krohn, raffles, door prizes and a whole lot more.
